  Been going there for years. Great variety of food. My favorites are the orange chicken, egg fu yung, and lo mein. They also have a beef and vegetable soup that I tried last time I went that was really good with a very flavorful broth and tender beef but I can't remember what it's called lol

  So I've waited a couple of weeks to write this review. Shan Dong USED to be my fave Chinese in El Paso. They have my fave egg drop soup. But we moved to central and hadn't been there in over a year. But found ourselves eastside one Saturday so went for lunch. We are a big family, we adopted 6 brothers and sisters out of foster care... so going OUT is always an expensive proposition.  BUT we had taken The kids here a few times before we had moved central and they always liked it, and we could get lunch specials and save a little  so this was a welcome suggestion.
  
  First service was WAY off... drink refills had fo be asked for... took forever to get orders taken and food came out scattered,  not all together. And items were forgotten. WE had a snafu too, as one one child asked for lemonade but really wanted tea... so we asked for a change of that and they brought that but never picked up the lemonade ... more on that later. We ordered two extra orders of egg rolls as we eat a LOT of them. And of course our kids FLEW through those fried wonton strips they bring out like chips in a bowl to the table... our waiter asked if we wanted more and of course we did so he brought 3 more bowls.
  
  When the food came it was much smaller portions than I had remembered. I ordered the happy family, which is shrimp, chicken and beef with veggies and there were 2 shrimp and two of each other piece of meat and about a cup of veggies. That's it. Very disappointing. I can't have rice rice right now so I had asked for bean sprouts on the side ... they never came. Until we were nearly finished then the waiter said "oh your bean sprouts!" I said never mind now, we're almost done,  but he brought a bowl anyway. Ummmm ok?
  
  So the Bill comes, it's almost $100! Pre- Tip...For LUNCH.. I had expected $80 or so cuz the lunches are about $7.95 each --of which we had 7- which is about $3 MORE than most Chinese places around town for a lunch with drink. I read through the bill, we were charged $1 for EACH bowl of those wonton crisps, that every other place gives you all you WANT for free. We were charged for the lemonade we asked to be exchanged and was never drank. A charge for $5 for a bowl of bean sprouts .... BEAN SPROUTS !!! That we said never mind cuz they had forgotten ....! AND at the bottom of the ticket before the total is another charge for SC of almost $12. So when I go to pay I tell them I think the ticket is wrong ... so he re adds the ticket for me and then says "and then your service charge of 15%..." i say WHAT?? Service Charge for what ??? He says anytime there's more than 5 people at the table they can charge a service charge of 15%. It's on the menu... and proceeds to SHOW me.
  Ok FIRST of all I had 6 that were CHILDREN, under the age of 14. 4 under the age of 10! They don't offer a kids menu so they ate regular lunch specials and took stuff home cuz they didn't finish it all... those aren't regular DINERS. And this must be a newer policy because we never had this Service Charge before years back. Sorry if you think our family constitutes a party when we show UP to your establishment.
  
  Needless to say they lost customers. Not Big family friendly so we won't be back if we are eastside again .... this place used to be Run by a nice family, a father and son in the kitchen... cooking two styles and the waitresses were these nice little lady's ... much has changed. We noticed the interiors were changed when we walked in... gone where the Chinese lanterns that used to hang from the lights And ceiling. And little Christmas style lights around the room... maybe there's new owners and new rules....and new CHARGES FOR EVERYTHING.

  Great Chinese food. Super attentive staff. Reasonable prices for portions. Would have rated 5 stars but they substituted jalapeño for the red peppers in my Mongolian Beef. Still great food though.

  By El Paso standards this might be great,  but anywhere else this would be meh...
  
  Friendly service. Slow to refill drinks. Food was ok, but nothing special.  I had lemon chicken, which seemed like 2 frozen breaded chicken patties with a little lemon sauce drizzled over it. Not enough sauce for each piece to get some. Searved with overcooked bland fried rice.
  
  So would I refuse to meet somebody there for a meal? No.  Would I suggest to meet there? Again, no...

  Not sure how this place is so highly rated.  The comments regarding the service being slow and on the edge of rude were correct.  The food was undercooked and spongy and sauces very quickly congealed, sugary but otherwise flavorless.
  
  Not sure if there's anything better for Chinese food in El Paso but this place was not up to standards anywhere else.  Check elsewhere for good food.
